Lesser Fey of Vero
For many years, the courts of Vero did not welcome the lesser fey of other courts. However, when Rosaelya rose as Queen, she shifted the power dynamic and opened the realms of faerie to allow other courts to make their presence known. Historically, Vero has been regarded as the island of the Sidhe, some of whom have ancestry from other races.
Lesser fey are members of various courts outside of the noble Sidhe, including beings like the Sluagh, Pooka, Satyrs, and Pixies. While these beings are noble in their own right, their ancestral overlords are the Sidhe. Unlike the Sidhe, lesser fey do not wield hands of power but have unique abilities, often elemental in nature. They share the fey weakness, but their abilities and roles differ greatly from their Sidhe counterparts.
Pooka
Eternal tricksters and shape-shifters, Pookas are known for their love of pranks and mischief. They mean no harm but often frustrate others with their antics. Playfulness is second nature to them, and they struggle to understand why others are so serious. While some call them "Phouka" or "Puca," they all refer to the same kind of fey.
Appearance and Lifestyle
Pookas’ appearance varies widely depending on their animal side. Typically smaller and more wily, they often exhibit features such as cat ears and tails, lizard scales, or feathers. They are generally cute, with animalistic features like oversized eyes.
Pookas often make a living as performers, actors, jesters, or comedians. Seelie Pookas are drawn to mortals who need cheering up, while Unseelie Pookas serve as confidants for those who can ensure their survival.
Racial Abilities
-
Shape-changing: Pookas can shift into three animals of their choice. They can take the shape of mundane creatures (e.g., cat, dog, frog, raven, etc.) within two turns, gaining all the natural abilities of the animal.
-
Dreamwalking: Pookas have the ability to enter and influence dreams, often pulling pranks or learning secrets. This is a consent-based power and should be roleplayed accordingly.
-
Animal Speech: Pookas can speak to the animals they can shape-shift into, though others, like werewolves, will not mistake them for one of their own.
Weaknesses
-
Lies: Pookas cannot help but lie, even about important matters. Each Pooka lies in their own unique way, some giving opposite answers or mixing truth and falsehoods to throw off their listeners.
-
Natural Urge: Pookas are bound by animal instincts, which can result in peculiar behaviors like a taste for raw meat, a tendency to chase cars, or a desire to lick themselves.
-
Pooka also pick an elemental type on the main Fey Page of their choice, although most prefer Spirit as it amplifies their tricks and dream abilities.
Sluagh
Known as "The Host" by their kind, the Sluagh are a lesser Unseelie fey, feared even among the Unseelie for their nightmarish nature. Often called the "underfolk," they are shunned by other fey, preferring dark, forgotten places like crumbling mansions or underground lairs.
Appearance
Sluagh are grotesque and bizarre in appearance, often featuring bat wings, tentacles, or serpentine tongues. The more disturbing their form, the more beautiful they are considered by their peers.
Racial Abilities
-
Nightmares: Sluagh share the dreamwalking ability with the Pooka but are far more terrifying. They create true nightmares, helping humans confront fears but always replacing them with a greater one.
-
Beauty in Depravity: Sluagh revel in what others deem freakish or depraved, often seeking out these things for personal satisfaction.
Weaknesses
-
Pariah: Sluagh are social outcasts even among other fey, often looked down upon by both mortals and their own kind.
-
Unable to Hide Deformities: Sluagh cannot fully conceal their grotesque traits, making them the fey most exposed to the outside world’s judgment. They also possess the weakest glamour.
-
Sluagh gain an elemental magic type of their choice from the main fey page. Most prefer Blood or Spirit, as it adds to the horror that they hide.
Pixie (Demi-Fey)
Small, winged fey, Pixies are also known as Demi-Fey. They are creatures of magic and mystery, often appearing as birds, butterflies, or insects. Some have the ability to grow into human size, though they prefer their smaller forms, which make them hard to catch.
Appearance
Pixies come in various sizes and colors but always remain small with wings. They tend to appear as magical creatures with very sharp teeth. Their bite is infamous for being incredibly painful.
Racial Abilities
-
Not All That Glitters: Pixies are naturally adept at finding valuable items, though their obsession with shiny things borders on kleptomania.
-
Painful Smiles: Their sharp teeth deliver excruciating bites, and only a Pixie can heal the damage they inflict. A Pixie bite is akin to a combination of razor blades, paper cuts, salt, and whisky.
Weaknesses
-
Fragility: Due to their small size, Pixies are very physically fragile, and a good blow can hurt them severely.
-
Interpretive: Pixies tend to interpret everything through their own lens, often taking offense at minor slights due to their inferiority complex.
-
Obsessive/Hoarder: Once they want something, they will go to great lengths to possess it, leading them to hoard objects they deem valuable.
-
Pixies get their choice of an elemental magic from the main fey page of their choice
Satyr/Faun
Although often considered lesser fey in other lands, Satyrs and Fauns are held in high regard in Vero, especially by their patron, the god Bacchus. These fey are embodiments of both earth and sky, blending mortality with immortality. They are known for their revelry, fertility, and passion for life.
Appearance
Satyrs and Fauns have human torsos with animalistic lower halves, usually resembling goats, rams, or even equines. Their fur and horns often match natural earthen tones, and they are heavily associated with nature and fertility.
Racial Abilities
-
Bacchus' Blessings: Satyrs and Fauns can accelerate plant growth and enhance the effects of food and drink they consume or share with others, though over-indulgence can lead to chaos.
-
Fertility: These fey are the embodiment of fertility; those who sleep with them are more likely to conceive, except for vampires and lycans.
-
Earth's Edge: Satyrs and Fauns are extraordinarily agile and graceful, particularly adept at climbing and jumping, making them ideal gardeners and climbers.
Weaknesses
-
Over-Indulgence: Satyrs and Fauns have strong appetites for food, drink, and sensual pleasures. If these needs are not met, they become lethargic and volatile.
-
Fear of Fire: Fire traumatizes these fey, as it can undo their work and drive them into a panic.
-
Chaotic Nature: Prone to erratic behavior, Satyrs and Fauns are ruled by their devotion to Bacchus and can be unpredictable, swinging between calm and madness.
-
Satyrs & Fauns can choose a magic element of their choice from the main fey page. Most stick to earth, air, fire, or water. Spirit and Blood are unnatural to them.
Ent/Treant
Ents are creatures of the earth conjured and summoned with the magic of earth. For the longest time, they were left within the fey realms as they do not do well in the mortal realms as their forms do not glamour. They are literally giant trees and flowery growths.
Capable of speech but is the speech of the ancients and their roles are guardians and protectors over grove and courts. After the departure of the Unseelie King, needing balance and protection, the Fey Queen has summoned some to the island to act as the protectors of the fey, the warders of the vineyards of Bacchus.
Earth Elemental Only.
Apperance: Large forms, mostly plants and tree, can have some flesh and hair. It is up to the player but they are more plant then flesh. Their roots pierce the earth and feed from life and give life in return.
Abilities:
-
Earth Shift, they will move the all in their way to protect the grove and courts.
-
Brute Strength, there is no force that a trent or Ent can not combat. Though they are wood or plant, they could take on a tank and walk away, with damage.
-
Earth flourishes in their presence. Where they grow, the earth can never die.
-
Overwhelming strength, speed and loyalty. They weild strong magic to protect and have no real want to be social creatures so likely only are found in places near the groves and fey realms.
-
Unlike typical fey, iron and silver do not bother them.
Weaknesses:
-
Fire - Lighting them on fire is aggravated damage, if not negated swiftly it can be life threatening.
-
Going too far from the grove/courts - They are fairly known to roam they know going too far from their places of power cause them to weaken over time and endure pain.
-
Limb severing - what tree wants to be cut down?
-
Contaminated earth/water - This poisons them.
